Last Thursday, OREA participated in a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Energy to discuss their proposed Home Energy Rating and Disclosure (HER&D) program. The Ministry emphasized that the meeting was just the first step in the consultation process and that no policy decisions had been made regarding the program.
Over the coming weeks the Ministry will be consolidating feedback and consulting with the Minister and his staff. The Ministry anticipates that further consultations and an update on the proposed program will take place in the next 2 to 6 months.
The Ministry staff was receptive to OREA’s recommendation of including energy audits in the new standardized home inspection being studied by the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS). They see the value in including energy audits in home inspections and have asked to meet with OREA and officials from MGCS to discuss our proposed solution.
OREA will continue to work with the government to emphasize that REALTORS® oppose any regulation of MLS® Systems and mandatory time-of-listing energy audits. The Government Relations team will continue to provide updates on this important issue as they are available.
