What’s on this September at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives

BRAMPTON, ON (Tuesday, Sept.15, 2020) As we head into September, the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is working behind-the-scenes to re-open in late Fall. In the meantime, we have an exciting donation to highlight and upcoming events happening this month!

Pride Donation

This summer PAMA received a significant donation from The Pride Committee of Peel consisting of textual records, photographs and artifacts.

The records offer invaluable documentation of the activities of the Pride Committee of Peel, in particular its annual “Peel Pride” picnic. Researchers interested in 2SLGTBQ+ community programs and events designed for residents of Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon will be well served by this material. It is important to stress that we do not, unfortunately, have very much material in the collection documenting Peel’s LGTBQ+ community. So, this donation offers us a fantastic opportunity to begin to rectify this deficiency.

“The Archives is delighted to accept these important records from the Pride Committee of Peel.  In recent years we have been building our collection to better reflect Peel’s modern history. We recognize that many communities in Peel are still underrepresented.  This donation helps us to close that gap.”  Jim Leonard, PAMA’s Supervisor of Archival Services / Regional Archivist

“We are thrilled to announce the finalization of a generous donation of artifacts from Peel Pride. These documents, photographs, t-shirts, banners, flags and other objects speak to local histories of queerness and help to tell stories about the region’s 2SLBGTQ+ communities. The addition of these items to the PAMA’s collections allows us to reflect on the moments, spaces and people that have contributed to the historical record of queer life in the region. Your stories matter and we are grateful to be entrusted with the care and conservation of these objects.”  Michelle Gewurtz, PAMA’s Supervisor of Arts and Culture
