Updates from the City of Brampton & Region of Peel

Dear Friends,

As a reminder tomorrow,  March 2nd at 7pm, City Councillor Jeff Bowman and I will be hosting a Community Town Hall on issues important to wards 3 & 4 residents, together with Peel Regional Police and City of Brampton staff we will discuss Crime Prevention, Safety, the Nurturing Neighborhood Program and the New Community Safety Advance Funding Stream. Please click on the icon below to register, I hope you join us on March 2nd.

Earlier this year I was sworn in as the newest member of the Peel Police Services Board. It is an honour and privilege to serve on this board and a responsibility I take very seriously. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow board members for 2021-2022 and work towards building a safer community. I am also pleased to have been named as Chair the Economic Development, and since 2018 have also served as Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, Audit Committee, Citizen Awards Committee at the City of Brampton and Chair of Human Services at the Region of Peel.

I am also pleased that Brampton City Council recently unanimously passed my motions to increase openness and accountability within the City. The motions direct staff to report to council with a method to publish the City of Brampton’s organizational chart and make the existing GeoHub Open Data Portal more accessible and user-friendly. The GeoHub Open Data Portal is a platform that allows residents, businesses, and stakeholders to view data sets that are used by the corporation, furthering the City of Brampton’s commitment to transparency.

I also passed a motion that directs City of Brampton staff to enter into discussions with the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at Ryerson University to establish a Police Cybercrime Training Centre in Brampton. The Police Cybercrime Training Centre will build upon the Canadian Police College’s training, develop advanced courses that train officers nation wide, and allow for collaboration with national, regional, and municipal law enforcement agencies to better address cybercrime.
