It’s no news to REALTORS® that Ontario is experiencing an unprecedented housing crisis, but Government of Ontario is listening to OREA’s plan to make homeownership more affordable.
Yesterday, the Government of Ontario delivered the 2021 Fall Economic Statement, Build Ontario and OREA is thrilled to see three huge Government Relations “wins” for Ontario REALTORS®:
- Ontario will establish a Housing Affordability Task Force to gather ideas on how to make housing more affordable. OREA will be pressing hard to have a seat at the table when the Task Force is formed!
- The Government will make changes to incentivize building more housing on brownfield sites to help increase housing supply across Ontario.
- The Seniors’ Home Safety Tax Credit is being extended by another year, allowing more seniors to live safely in their homes for longer.
These changes come as a result of OREA’s efforts to encourage the government to build an accessible and affordable housing market through encouraging a mix of housing supply, streamlining approvals processes, incentivizing development, and prioritizing pro-homeownership policies that will shape the future of housing in our Province.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of our OREA team at governmentrelations@orea.com.
Sincerely,
David Oikle
